Adam’s Rib in Marriage

When we discover and write the responsibility of the covenant on our hearts, the power of love is ready to unleash in our lives a purpose that will lead marriage to experience new and good winds of hope—love and happiness.

The Rib represents:

Flat and curved bones that cover and form the rib cage, which protects the lungs and the heart.

BIOLOGICAL MEANING: Their main function is to protect the lungs and the heart, symbolically associated with “life” (the lungs) and “home” (the heart).

The word “rib” in Hebrew means: In this text, Tsela—the same term used in construction for the beams in King Solomon’s temple. It is also used to describe a joint or the arch in a doorway. The same word refers to the poles of the Ark of the Covenant where the rings were placed. When we read that God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep and took one of his ribs to create Eve, the meaning may be that God took one of his “sides,” forming a woman from Adam’s side so that they would become one.

It is in the nature of man to follow his wife and leave his parents, clinging to her for her help. Metaphorically, just as a beam in a house holds up the structure, a wife becomes the “pillar” of the family.

Marriage is the orderly, mutual, and united construction of an intimate and spiritual structure by the spouses, allowing both to rise to the level needed to fulfill their roles as husband and wife.

“Behind every wedding there is a story that belongs to two people, who sometimes have traveled a difficult road to reach the ‘altar,’ overcoming all kinds of challenges.”
